River Woodworks
Quality Craftsmanship
River Woodworks is a company that has grown out of one man's pure love of woodwork and his desire to come as close to perfection in it as he can.
I was first inspired at the age of 14 by my high school shop teacher to become a cabinetmaker but have learned from many other inspirational woodworkers along the way. I am also self taught in many techniques of design and construction in the art we call Fine Woodworking.
Apart from Fine furniture and cabinetry, I had the unique opportunity to apprentice under the auspices of Jack Minehart, of Bigfork Canoe Trails. Jack is one of few remaining birch bark canoe builders in North America; he is also a great teacher and was all too happy to pass on his knowledge to an eager, hard working kid (young adult, actually, but in denial).
After spending five amazing summers in the wilds of Minnesota's North Woods, and with my master's blessing, I set up shop in Quebec's Gatineau hills where I continue, and continue to pass on, the ancient tradition of birch bark canoe building.
Regardless of the piece, the level of quality to which I aspire in all fields of woodwork remains the same - high end.
May my legacy be one of quality furniture and canoes that will be used now and by future generations.
What's Inside
Build To Use, As Well As Admired
Whether it is in furniture building, cabinetry or canoe building, whether it is a reproduction of an old piece or a new design, I see myself as a creator, not a re-creator - everything I build is built to be used as well as admired.
